AWS Monitoring & Security Case Study – Incident Response Transformed for Phase Two

About the Customer

Phase Two is an open-source company specializing in Identity and Access Management (IAM), built on Keycloak technology. The company offers a Keycloak-based SaaS platform that handles authorization and authentication for enterprise clients across multiple industries, making reliability and security core to everything they do.

The Challenge

Phase Two hosted its Keycloak IAM services on self-managed infrastructure that had grown complex over time. As their client base expanded, maintaining near-perfect uptime became critical — any disruption directly impacted clients' ability to authenticate users and access systems.

Security was equally pressing. As an IAM provider, Phase Two sits at the center of its clients' access control. A single vulnerability could cause significant damage across multiple organizations at once. The existing monitoring setup offered only
basic visibility, making it hard to catch incidents before they escalated.

The Solution

Phase Two partnered with Triangu to overhaul its monitoring and incident management infrastructure. Triangu implemented a comprehensive observability solution using Amazon EKS, Helm, ArgoCD, DataDog, and OpsGenie — replacing reactive, fragmented tooling with a unified, proactive framework.

Amazon EKS enabled Phase Two to scale containerized Keycloak deployments reliably. ArgoCD and Helm handled continuous deployment and version control, while DataDog provided real-time visibility across the full stack. OpsGenie ensured intelligent, role-based alerting that routed incidents to the right people immediately. AWS Security Hub was integrated to continuously assess and harden the infrastructure's security posture.

The Benefits

Operational

Average incident response time dropped to approximately 3 minutes, directly supporting Phase Two's near-100% uptime goals and reducing the risk of client-facing outages.

Security

Continuous automated assessments via AWS Security Hub enabled the team to identify and resolve vulnerabilities before they could cause harm — giving both Phase Two and their clients confidence in the platform's integrity.

Business

With verifiable security and reliability in place, Phase Two strengthened client trust, improved retention, and built a more resilient business.
